What to watch for on Eltham properties
Every suburb has its own mix of yards, gardens and building styles, and each can affect barrier compliance in different ways. These are the issues worth checking before your inspection, because most of them are quick and inexpensive to fix once you spot them.
- Mature treesTrees, shrubs and climbing plants that grow over or against the barrier and give a child something to climb
- Sloping blocksChanges in ground level that reduce the effective barrier height along the fence
- Timber boundary fencesGaps under the fence where soil, mulch or pavers have shifted
- Retaining walls & garden bedsRetaining walls, raised garden beds and outdoor furniture sitting close to the barrier
Barrier height is measured from finished ground level on the approach side, so we measure along the whole fence, not just at one point. Gates are checked too, to make sure they swing away from the pool, close by themselves and latch automatically.
